This is my daughter's favorite book right now. It is your standard rhyming/pattern reader and one of the better ones. We both enjoy the illustrations. My only complaint, and my usual complaint with rhyme books is there is one page the rhythm is way different from the other pages and it didn't have to be. I read it differently to keep the pattern going. Also there is ONE page that has zero rhyming and it drives me nuts. Overall small complaints though. The book is cute and a favorite. This is one of the better rhyming stories we have discovered.Tags : Jake Bakes Cakes: A Silly Rhyming Picture Book for Kids - Kindle edition by Gerald Hawksley. Jake Bakes Cakes A Silly Rhyming Picture Book for Kids edition by Gerald Hawksley Children eBooks Reviews
My son was able to read this by himself without any hiccups, he is 5.
You follow Jake and read of the various cakes he bakes for his various clients.
This is a cute book about the different types of cakes Jake makes for a variety of people. The poem rhymes well and has a great rhythm. The illustrations are bright, colorful and full of character, while the illustrative style is a bit simplistic for my tastes, I doubt a toddler would care when he sees a witch flying on a broom with her cat at her back and both of them eating some pumpkin cake. At 34 pages it is long enough to get a wide variety of cakes and interesting characters. So indulge, get same milk and cake and peak through Jake's catalog of cakes.
...And Christmas cakes for Santa Claus." Just a silly, colorful children's book that my grand daughter enjoys (which is what really counts!) Can't say I can think of many other kindle book that reminds me of both Winnie-the-Pooh and Santa within a single breath but for "Piglet and Robin The Night Before Christmas". Fun book!
As an avid cake lover, I adored this book. There were so many different kinds of cakes! The pictures were a delight, and the rhymes were clever.
My children LOVE LOVE LOVE this story. My son had all the words memorized when he was three, so he could read it to us. I also read words the opposite sometimes, which they think is hysterical. Example instead of him baking a cupcake for the winner of the race, I'll say he bakes a bowl cake for the loser of the crawl. They will laugh and correct me. It's a great story with very good illustrations.
Cute rhyming picture book for preschoolers. Jake bakes a cake that is appropriate for any type of customer. Wonderful and clever one line rhymes will delight young listeners. For example, Jake bakes fish cakes for fish, upside down cakes for acrobats, tin can cakes for robots, coffee cakes for sleepyheads and iced cakes for penguins. The illustrations are colorful, humorous and appropriate.
Children will want to hear this book over and over; they will be reading it back to you in no time.
"Jake Bakes Cakes" by Gerald Hawksley appropriately is subtitled "A Silly Rhyming Children's Picture Book". Jake does indeed bake cakes of every sort. The story proceeds through a series of whimsical cakes Jake bakes, such as an upside down cake for acrobats, cheese cake for mice, carrot cake for rabbits, etc. Appropriate and silly illustrations accompany each type of cake and its associated rhymes. Some of the types of cakes are not necessarily real; for example, oat cakes for horses, and others. However, I am definitely NOT an expert authority on every type of cake made by every culture, so for all I know they may indeed be real cakes I have just never heard of!
This is a cute story. Jake is certainly an imaginative baker! After reading this story to a child, it might be fun to see if the child can think up other types of cakes for special purposes, consistent with the story. This story has nothing objectionable in it, and is appropriate for all ages of pre-readers and early readers. I have no qualms about recommending this one for youngsters on your shopping list.
