I cried real splishy splashy tears, the mark of a good book. This was such a moving and thought provoking story to be aimed at a younger audience but I think older readers would enjoy it too. William Woodall really gets into the mind of a 14 year old boy. What I like about this author is that he's not trying to be like anyone else. He's not copycating C.S. Lewis like so many others try to do. He's not afraid to approach the Christian aspect but he doesn't beat anyone over the head with it either. His work is unique and I really enjoy it.

I think he should have included discussion questions at the end of this book because there are so many ways to start a conversation with the many themes it contains.

I would give the writing 4 stars only because the characters weren't as distinct as in other books I have read by this author. For instance, the names Brandon and Brian were so similar I kept confusing them. I thought the two main characters could have used something in their speech to set each one apart. I really enjoyed the unique way he has of putting things though. Here's an example.
"Nor did he dream, except the sweet and simple dreams of the pure at heart, of the kind that nourish the soul but are never remembered."

I should also mention that the writing reminded me of a bedtime story in places. Some people might find that a bit distracting but I felt it added to the fairy-tale fantasy feel. I give the story line 5 whole stars. I'm sure someone has written about similar things but this felt original to me.

The Christian aspect I'd give 5 stars also. It is very appropriate for the intended YA audience but also appealing to a much wider age range. I could see reading this book in a homeschool setting. I guess because there are so many nuggets of truth hidden in there. It's about Heaven. It's about bad things happening for a reason. It's about deciding for yourself what matters most in life. It's a really good book!

I am working on his short story collection next.
Note: I wasn't asked to review this book and I bought my own copy. I'm a blogger and I have access to tons of free books. I just love this guy's work!

Unclouded Day The Stones of Song Book 1 edition by William Woodall Children eBooks Reviews

As a "survivor" of abuse myself, this book really tugged at my heart strings. Brian is your typical teenage boy in a troubled home who happens across an amulet that gives him everything he has ever wanted... or does it? Well, that is a story that this book tells well. Does material stuff really make you happy and solve all your problems? He quickly realizes that it doesn't and he is off to redeem himself and save his brother.

What I love about this author is his deep thoughts and philosophical ramblings in the story. They fit right in and are really thought provoking. Unclouded Day is a redemptive tale of a boy who rises above his abusive household and sets out on his own story. Part adventure and part coming of age story, you will be pulled in, you will cry. I highly recommend it!

If you haven't already read the author's other books, I highly recommend his "Last Werewolf Hunter" series. It pulled at my heart strings even more and is a very exciting series in and of itself.
This was another one of those books that once I started it I sat up until I finished it. I was so engaged I thought I had read a short story. The time flew by so quickly. I felt so sorry for Brian and his younger brother. The story starts off with such heartbreak when we learn what type of mother they have. She is the type of person you really want to hate. You don’t hear much about the father until later on. This story, although fantasy has so much to teach us. When Brian finds the amulet he kind of lets the power go to his head. I have been a fan of the TV show “Once Upon A Time”. Mr. Gold aka Rumplestiltskin has a saying every time someone comes to him for magic. He reminds them that they need to remember that “magic comes with a price”. It seems that Brian never thought about the price of using the amulet until it was almost too late. What I didn’t understand was why his mom waited so long to let him know she knew he had it. It added another layer of hardness and uncaring to her character. This story has a redemptive side. This is an allegorical novel. It can be read by young and old, Christian and Non-Christian and be enjoyed by all. I read this as an e-book. This is a book I most definitely want to get for my classroom. I even know which student is going to get to check it out first. This is definitely an author that needs to be recommended more often. I look forward to reading and reviewing another of his books I have called “Tycho”. Go ahead and check him out.
I received a review copy in exchange for my honest review.
I didn't know what to expect, but I'm happy I read the book. It touches the heart with that longing many of us have on our better days. But I don't want to spoil anything. Read the book!
I love books like these it shows that there are so many ways you can write christian books and I love that I love this book's concept keep up the great work will definitely be reading more of this writer's work.
I loved this book. It was a very sweet story. It made me feel sad and happy at the same time! For anyone wanting a deep emotional experience, you should read this book!
This is a book about growing up with an abusive alcoholic mother and a child's Faith in God. A story about Magic and the mythical fountain of youth. A very good book that I recommend to anyone.
